“I have become an American citizen!”
Join Literacy DuPage today and help literally change lives when you become an adult literacy volunteer. What a difference one year and one tutor made in the lives of Giovana, an adult learner, and her family!
Giovana is proud to let everyone know that she has become an American citizen. She and her tutor, Reed, met one-to-one for a couple of hours each week. “Giovana’s primary role was as the nurturer of her two young sons,” Reed explains. “It was her desire to stay ahead of their ever-increasing English vocabulary and speaking skills that was her motivation to study hard.” She was able to gain the skills to become the best parent she could be and to provide the best support she could for their education and personal growth. During the last few months of their meetings, Giovana began to study to become a United States citizen, a personal dream of hers that was made possible by one tutor.
Volunteer tutors, like Reed, receive comprehensive training in a series of six workshops. Tutoring times and locations are based on your availability, no teaching background or second language is required, and Literacy DuPage staff is always available to provide continued support.
Volunteer your time today to help someone with limited English discover their full potential. Our tutor training teaches you how to help an adult neighbor read, write speak and understand English better. Help end the wait for one of the 200 adults who are waiting for a tutor.
