$1,050 in Coins and Other Items Reported Missing From Home Safe

Items from Downers Grove Police reports for May 18-May 22

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Wednesday, May 18

2:10 p.m.: A resident of the 6500 block of Terrace Drive told police her debit card was used to make a $503 unauthorized purchase in a foreign country on May 4. According to the report, the bank will be conducting an investigation and the card has been cancelled.

Thursday, May 19

4:04 a.m.: A portable toilet and the aluminum fence surrounding it were damaged by fire at Washington Park, 835 Prairie Ave. Police used fire extinguishers to douse flames before the fire department arrived. A man leaving for work reported the fire, but neither he nor an officer on patrol in the area saw anyone or anything suspicious prior to the fire. Damage is estimated at $1,500.

5:53 a.m.: A Ping golf club valued at $350 was found in the roadway near 63rd and Main streets by an officer on patrol.

11:34 a.m.: A Rubbermaid garbage can valued at $60 was reported missing from the curb in front of a residence in the 500 block of Prairie Avenue. The homeowner said two cans and a recycling bin were placed at the curb at 7 a.m. and one can was missing when she went to retrieve cans at 2 p.m.

Friday, May 20

11:33 a.m.: Coins, silver bars and medicine valued at $1,050 was reported missing from a home safe in the 600 block of Gierz Avenue. The resident stated the items had been in the safe last month. When he discovered the items missing, he searched the house and safe several times, but did not find them.

12:12 p.m.: The rear window of a car parked in the 5900 block of Blodgett Avenue was shattered between 8 a.m. and noon. The car was parked in the street at the time of the incident and nothing was reported missing. Police stated no object was found that caused the damage, which is estimated at $150.

8:43 p.m.: Louis O. Narcisi, 40, of Bloomindale was charged with retail theft after a loss prevention employee at Fry's Electronics, 3300 Finley Road, observed Narcisi on video cameras allegedly place an Artic Silver computer part valued at $12.98 into the front pocket of his jeans. Narcisi was stopped in the store vestibule by the employee, who had recognized him as being charged with retail theft in October 2010. Narcisi first gave the employee and a police officer a false name, but eventually identified himself. Narcisi also was charged with criminal trespass to property and obstructing identification.

Sunday, May 22

4:05 p.m.: A man reported a $5 bill was taken from his locker at the Indian Boundary YMCA, 711 59th St., between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The man said he had placed the cash, a towel and shorts inside a plastic bag and left them in an unlocked family locker.
