$30,000 in Jewelry Stolen from Residence

Retail theft, criminal damage to property among reports

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Burglary

An estimated $30,000 in gold and diamond necklaces and jewelry were stolen from the home of a resident at the Mistwood Condos on April 3. The victim told officers a white man came to her door claiming to be from a veterans association. He said he was there to collect a check she had agreed to donate. The resident told the man she spoke to someone on the phone a week earlier who said they'd be out to pick up the donation in a couple of days. The resident agreed to give a cash donation and went to her kitchen where her purse was. The man followed the resident inside and she told him to leave and wait outside, but he continued to talk and distract her while another white man entered the residence. The victim saw the second man as he walked away from the bedroom area toward the front door, and asked the first man who that was and then decided to kick the first man out. No one else in the area saw either man. The woman didn't notice anything missing until the following day when she went looking for her jewelry but it was missing.
