District 58 Students Participate in State Music Festival

Nineteen students from Herrick and O'Neill middle schools in Downers Grove were selected to participate in the annual Illinois Music Educators Association Festival.

 

Nineteen students from Downers Grove School District 58 were selected to perform last week at the annual Illinois Music Educators Association District 1 Music Festival.

Students from Herrick and O'Neill middle schools performed Saturday at Riverside-Brookfield High School alongside students from across the southwest Chicago metropolitan area.

The Festival Band, Orchestra and Chorus presented a public Festival Finale Concert on Saturday, Nov. 3. The IMEA Jazz Festival will take place Saturday, Nov. 10, at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox.

The following District 58 students were selected to participate in this year’s IMEA Festival:

O’Neill Middle School 

Band: Kristen Leung, flute

Orchestra: Chandana Sooranahalli, violin; Michael Beube, violin; Lydia Walsh-Rock, cello

Chorus: Amy Binder, Molly Carlson, Grace Zieman

Jazz Band: Chris Neumann, baritone saxophone

Herrick Middle School

Band: Zach McCoy, percussion

Orchestra: Aleena Albert, violin; Jack Barkei, viola; Bryan Monk, violin; Abby Pfeiffer, viola; Catherine Smerz, double bass 

Chorus: Tim Berberich, bass; Emma Doak,soprano; Ben Goedert, tenor; Sharon Stagaman, soprano; Riley Wagner, alto
