Downers Grove Woman Gets 8 Years for Shooting Boyfriend Through Bedroom Door
Vickie Podruzek, 44, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to shooting her live-in boyfriend in February 2012.
A Downers Grove woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for shooting her boyfriend during an argument in February 2012.
Vickie Podruzek, 44, of the 6300 block of Carpenter Street, was sentenced Wednesday in DuPage County Court after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin.
The incident occurred around noon Feb. 12, when Podruzek and her boyfriend, Kraig McCauley, got into an argument at their home. After the argument, McCauley went to the bedroom and shut the door. Podruzek retrieved a shotgun from the other bedroom and fired through the door, striking McCauley in the neck and shoulders, Berlin said.
McCauley was taken to a local hospital and has since recovered from his injuries, authorities said.

“Domestic violence is responsible for more than two million injuries and more than 1,300 deaths each year,” Berlin said in a release. “Thankfully, Mr. McCauley’s injuries were not fatal. People have got to learn that if a disagreement arises at home, violence is never the answer."
Podruzek will be required to serve 85 percent of her sentence before being eligible for parole, Berlin said.
