Overnight Burglaries to Unlocked Cars
- An unlocked car was burglarized overnight in the 3900 block of West End Road, police said. A stereo faceplate was removed from the vehicle.
- An unlocked car was burglarized overnight in the 1700 block of Breasted Avenue, police said. A red Gap briefcase with miscellaneous papers was stolen.
TUESDAY, AUG. 14
Swapped DVD Price Tag at Fry's
Robert J. Saul, 42, of the 6300 block of MacArthur in Woodridge, was arrested around 3:40 p.m. at Fry's Electronics, 3300 Finley Road, Downers Grove police said.
The store's security cameras recorded Saul as he selected a Diff'rent Strokes DVD and placed his own UPC label and price tag on the packaging, police said. The value of the DVD was $21.99, while the UPC, which belonged to the DVD Human Centipede, had a value of $20.99, the report said.
The DVD was purchased with the wrong UPC, and Saul was charged $20.99, police said. After passing the last point of sale, he was stopped by a loss prevention officer at Fry's, who handcuffed him and called police, according to the report.
Saul was charged with one misdemeanor count of retail theft, and was banned from entering Fry's property.
Stolen Water Fountain
The top tier of a large, three-tier cement water fountain was stolen from a home in the 900 block of Clyde Avenue some time between 9 p.m. on Aug. 13 and 11 p.m. on Aug. 14, police said. The man who filed the complaint told police a similar incident occurred on Aug. 7, when a lion statue was stolen from his doorstep. That incident was not reported to police.
MONDAY, AUG. 13
Car Burglary at Prentiss Creek
A car was burglarized overnight near the Prentiss Creek building in the 6500 block of Puffer Road, police said. A purse containing a wallet, credit cards and starter checks was taken from the vehicle, along with three DVDs.
SUNDAY, AUG. 12
A bicycle was stolen from a rack on the north side of the Main Street train depot, 1000 Burlington Ave., between 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 10 and 10 a.m. on Aug. 12 , police said. The bicycle was described as a black 12-speed with gold tape on the handlebars, silver trap pedals, a brown leather seat and black wall tires with 16-inch rims. The cable and Masterlock lock were also missing, police said.
