Police: 13 Downers Grove Homes Burglarized Since June
The Downers Grove Police Department issued a community alert Friday after investigating several residential burglaries across the village.
The Downers Grove Police Department is urging the community to be on the lookout for suspicious behavior after a string of residential burglaries this summer.
Downers Grove Police Sgt. Harry Andler said 13 homes have been burglarized across the village since June 1.
An alert was issued to the entire Downers Grove community Friday night.
"The main thing we want is for people to call if they notice any suspicious activity," Andler said. "We're stepping up patrols to increase police presence, but we need the community to be on the lookout as well."
Andler said the burglaries have occurred throughout the village, and most appear to be unrelated.
"All I can say is that the alert was issued to the entire community," he said. "We're not talking about just one location."
In July, the department released a sketch of a male suspect, approximately 50 to 55 years old, who committed a string of burglaries on the northwest side of Downers Grove during the daytime hours.

In the alert issued Friday night, residents were reminded to be aware of any person(s) that may appear at their door asking for someone that does not live there, asking for directions, or stating that they used to live at their residence.
If residents observe any suspicious or unusual behavior in their neighborhood, they should contact the Downers Grove Police Department by calling 911.

Just a note: the burglaries that prompted the alert on Friday aren't necessarily connected to the burglaries in July.
