The horror stories coming from this store never cease. Something so wholly preventable as a distemper outbreak is a clear indication of the lack of care being provided to the poor animals who by no fault of their own end up in a small box awaiting a home. Reports of puppy mill breeding, hereditary conditions requiring thousands of dollars in surgery and young deaths have been common over the years. If your family needs a dog, consider adoption. West Suburban has an endless line of great doggies that need a home. If your family needs a purebred puppy, do your homework, background check the breeder, call references, and see their home. In some cases you can find a purebred at the shelter too! Buying a puppy from happiness is a sick pet is a classic case of Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware!

Don't shop, adopt! You are not saving the dogs at a pet store you are condemning their parents to a torturous life and encouraging the production of poorly bred puppies. No matter what they tell you, reputable breeders will never sell their puppies to a pet store. There are two ways to stop puppy mills, one is to stop buying dogs from pet stores and two is to change the laws.

This store has been selling sick and dying dogs for over 25 years. It was only a matter of time before this happened. These dogs are from puppy mills, Steve Kruse, Levi Graber, Annette Moeller, Terry Glover, etc. Visit www.caps-web.org for the undercover investigations on the breeders they use. This store sells fraud and they make their blood money off of innocent creatures. Shut. Them. Down.

If you or someone you know bought a puppy from Happiness Is Pets and have incurred vet bills treating your dog's condition(s) please go to the Companion Animal Protection Society's (CAPS) web site and complete a Pet Purchase Complaint Form regardless of the time frame and regardless of whether the dog is still alive. CAPS can help you. The number of complaints has increased significantly since the distemper story broke on 1/19/12. Here's a link to the complaint form:

The suburban life just ran a story regarding a class action lawsuit against Happiness is Pets. Those of you who may have been affected should at least read more. My wife and I recently rescued a golden retriever who was homeless due to his behavioral issues, and a scan of his microchip revealed why. He was bought at Happiness is Pets after being bred at a puppy mill. Terry Glover's puppy mill in Iowa. The poor dog had zero love and attention when he was born. He was taken away from his mother weeks too early to live in a plexiglas box at happiness is pets, where he also had little love an affection until he was bought by a family that did not know what types of problems they were buying. He was abandoned 2 days after his first birthday. After spending the first 16+ weeks of his life truly alone, our poor guy has severe separation anxiety. While I don't consider myself a candidate for this class action, many of you know someone who should.
