Downers Grove Chilympics Now Open For Competitors

Is your chili worth $500? Could it even be the best in the country? You’ll have a chance to find out in September when the 2nd annual Chilympics Chili Cook off returns to the Downers Grove.

The Homestyle Chili event, organized by the Downers Grove Park District and sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS), is now accepting applications from competitors. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and an entry to the ICS national finals held in California. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the second and third place finishers and to the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

Chilympics takes places on September 27 from 12-4pm at Fishel Park in downtown Downers Grove. The contest is open to all ages and costs $45 to enter, which includes a $20 membership fee to ICS, a $25 Park District registration fee and a commemorative t-shirt. Competitors must also cook enough chili for the judges and the People’s Choice tasting. Full information, and competitor application forms, are available at http://www.dgparks.org. The deadline to enter is September 12.
