Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club Scores 'Hole in One' for Sharing Connections

Downers Grove Juniors's culminate year-long community service project with golf outing helping families afford new beds.

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club marked the conclusion of their year-long community improvement project with local charity, Sharing Connections, at the Fourth Annual Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Charity Golf Outing. Through the generous efforts of the participants at the golf outing, raffle ticket sales raised enough money to purchase seven beds for Sharing Connections clients. Funds raised at the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Annual Charity Golf Outing are typically designated for Senior Scholarship Awards and other local charity programs. This year, after learning that hundreds of Sharing Connection clients are on a wait list for a new bed, the Ways and Means Committee designated a special raffle at the golf outing to help raise funds for the beds.

“The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club was pleased to partner with Sharing Connections for our 2013/2014 Club year,” said President Joanne Vought. “We hope our contributions made a difference in the lives of families in our community and we hope the beds will help provide a good night sleep.”

Each year the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club selects an organization to partner with for a community improvement project. This year, the Club selected Sharing Connections and assisted the organization in a variety of ways including; volunteering more than 100 hours at the Sharing Connections warehouse, donating more than 20 cleaning supply buckets,  donating over 150 pairs of new underwear,  providing stamps through Jewel’s Rachel Ray dishware program to supply several families with full sets of dishes, donating 20 gift cards for Sharing Connections’ teenaged clients at Christmas, and donating 20 hand-made children’s blankets.

"We truly thank the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club for their past support and the funds they raised to purchase beds for Sharing Connections,” said Sandi Hively, Sharing Connection Board Member. "Their efforts will provide the individuals we serve a safe place to lay their head at night, one of the first steps to offer them hope for their futures."

Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club would like to thank all everyone who participated in charity golf event as well as all the generous community sponsors. Special thanks are extended to the title sponsor, The Lemon Tree, and the dinner sponsor, Gatto’s. DGJWC has yet to determine the community improvement project partner for the 2014/2015 year. Interested charity groups should contact info@dgjwc.org with proposals by July 2014.
