Fitness Is the Price to Buy These Vowels

While it’s not quite the same as the famous game show with Pat and Vanna, the wheel game at Oak Trace combines brain teasers, a group of enthusiastic seniors and some serious fun.

Oak Trace residents took the stage on Friday, May 23 for their shot at luck on the wheel. The senior living community has started hosting the game events bi-monthly for residents, who are big fans of TV’s Wheel of Fortune®. The game gives residents the chance to exercise their brains – and their bodies – with a little friendly competition.

The game is set up with a projector, sound system and dry erase boards. Three teams compete, each with three players. Between solving puzzles and hustling up to spin the wheel, the seniors keep active during the game. Even the audience gets involved, using plastic clappers to applaud puzzle solvers and big winners.

Oak Trace uses Lifespace Communities’ FitSix® wellness program, and this game gives residents a chance to exercise three of the six wellness elements – intellectual, social and physical – as well as major brain fitness. The game also incorporates teamwork, problem solving and communication.
