Sandack to Participate as Principal for a Day at Downers Grove's Whittier Elementary School

Downers Grove, IL … On Friday, November 1st, State Representative Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) will have an opportunity to step into the shoes of a top school administrator and experience a day in the life of an elementary school principal.

Sandack will spend the day at Downers Grove’s Whittier Elementary School as part of the “Principal for a Day” program, sponsored by the Illinois Principal’s Association. In addition to stepping into the role of school principal, Sandack will tour the school and interact with the students in a classroom setting. The school serves just over 300 students in grades K-6.

“As a father I know the importance of teaching your children about the necessity of a good education,” said Sandack. “It is exciting to know that I will have the opportunity to see our community’s teachers in action and also participate in that process. I look forward to visiting with the faculty and students of Whittier Elementary next week.”

According to Alison Maley, Director of Government Relations for the Illinois Principals Association, the “Principal for a Day” program is a statewide initiative to provide state and federal elected officials with an opportunity to observe, interact, and serve as an administrator in schools within their legislative districts. “The activity is designed to promote continued collaboration among legislators, administrators, staff, parents, and students in defining the direction of education,” she said.

The Illinois Principals Association is a leadership organization that serves more than 4,500 educational leaders throughout Illinois. Legislators have been encouraged to participate in the Principal for a Day program since 2004.
