Downers Grove Area Newcomers Club Donates $2400 to Local Children's Nonprofit

The club recently presented a check to the Naperville location of Almost Home Kids, an organization that provides transitional care in a home-like setting to children with complicated health needs.

The Downers Grove Area Newcomers Club recently presented a check totaling $2,400 to Almost Home Kids, a local non-profit organization that provides transitional care in a home-like setting to children with complicated health needs.

The donation was given by Jennifer Wagner and Michelle Lascari of Newcomers on Sept. 12, and has been earmarked for the Naperville Almost Home Kids location to receive a new industrial washer, dryer and other necessary items.

“We are thrilled that we chose a great partner in Almost Home Kids in 2011 and 2012 to make their events special and successful for the children they help and their dedicated staff,” said Jennifer Wagner, 2011 Fundraising Chair. “We wanted to ensure our monetary fundraising and donated gifts and services would be immediately useful to Almost Home Kids’ needs.”

Newcomers donated all proceeds from their annual event called "Affair with Flair," a shopping fete held this past April that showcased local artisans and businesses selling their wares. Other Newcomers’ fundraising efforts included Thirty-One and Yankee Candle proceeds, which helped contribute to the final donation amount.

“We are very grateful to have such wonderful supporters in the Downers Grove Area Newcomers Group,” said Debbie Grisko, President & CEO of Almost Home Kids. “The partnership has not only helped us purchase some much-needed equipment, but we have made new friends with a great group of women that are doing fantastic work for the good of the community”.

In addition to the gifted check, several members of the Downers Grove Newcomers volunteered their time and talents to help set up, work and attend the Almost Home Kids’ Masquerade Ball on Feb. 17. Many members helped to ensure the Masquerade Ball’s silent auction was a success by providing 30 bottles of wine, cash donations, and sales merchandise from Stella and Dot and Thirty-One.

The Downers Grove Area Newcomers Club is a non-profit organization that, for nearly 50 years, has offered area women the opportunity to develop friendships and pursue new interests and talents through social events and community outreach projects. Newcomers are women of all ages who reside in Downers Grove and surrounding suburbs. For more information, visit www.dgeareanewcomers.com.
