The will host a media giveaway this weekend as it makes room for new materials.
More than 5,000 VHS tapes, audiobooks on cassette and select CDs will be available all day Friday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 9, at no cost to library patrons.
The library, 1050 Curtis St., is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The giveaway is directly related to the library's recently adopted strategic plan, which calls for a "strong focus on books, reading and associated services."
Melissa Doornbos, public relations manager for the Downers Grove Public Library, said librarians are in the process of adding new materials—such as e-books—and removing materials that are older and used less frequently. They are also working to enhance technology assistance, readers' advisory and reference help.
