Downers Grove Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday at Good Samaritan Hospital

Esther Adams, who turned 100 on Sept. 29, has volunteered nearly 700 hours at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital over the past 36 years.

Longtime Downers Grove resident Esther Adams celebrated her 100th birthday at a party thrown by her fellow volunteers at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Adams' actual birthday is Sunday, Sept. 29.

Over the past 36 years, Adams has volunteered almost 700 hours as part of a group of ladies who make hats for newborn babies and do other sewing projects for patients in the hospital.

Adams taught home economics at Herrick Junior High School and Downers Grove North High School for many years; her husband was the principal at Downers Grove North. She has two children and five grandchildren.
