WWII Memorial Replica on Display as Part of Day of Honor
The July 27 event at Oak Trace senior living center in Downers Grove will feature the original scale model of the memorial used to show Congress before its construction.
In an effort to provide a unique experience for World War II veterans, the Oak Trace senior living community will be displaying a scale replica of the National World War II Memorial during a special Day of Honor.
The model, which is the size of a pool table, will be on display at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Oak Trace, 250 Village Drive, in Downers Grove, according to a press release. It was originally used by then-Sen. Bob Dole to show Congress what the permanent memorial that now stands in Washington, D.C., would look like, the release stated, adding that it eventually will end up in the Smithsonian.
The Day of Honor event is sponsored by Oak Trace, Downers Grove Library and Pillars of Honor, which is the nonprofit group that transports the memorial replica around the country.
