The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
Tony Webster, a man in middle age who has had a successful career, an amicable divorce, and a gentle life examines some critical events from his youth. He narrates the story of his boarding school clique and the tragic fate of two of his school chums. Later surprising revelations force him to confront the selective memories of a past that has suddenly turned dark. He comes to learn that truth often lies somewhere outside one’s own perceptions.
