As temperatures finally have begun to rise following the polar vortex, Lyman Woods in Downers Grove has opened its snowshoe trails, according to a Jan. 29 blog post on the Downers Grove Park District website.

In addition, a snowshoe hike will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 1 at Lyman Woods, 901 31st St. in Downers Grove. Snowshoes are available to rent at the Interpretive Center and are $6 for a three-hour rental, according to the blog.

Saturday's hike is free with a snowshoe rental, according to the blog. Children ages 5 years old and above are welcome to snowshoe at Lyman Woods.

"Looking ahead to the forecast, we anticipate a lovely week and weekend of snowshoeing," according to a message posted Wednesday on the blog. "Enjoy quality family time, take in the sights and sounds of the winter woods, and stretch your legs after being stuck inside."
