Downers Grove Companies Rank Among Chicago Tribune's Top Workplaces

Two Downers Grove companies have been named in the Chicago Tribune's annual list of top 100 workplaces in the Chicago area.

IT service provider Sentinel Technologies, 2550 Warrenville Road, was ranked the 8th best workplace among mid-size companies in Chicago. Founded in 1982, the company employs 260 people, and offers a full range of services for many of today's technology leaders, according to the Tribune.

One surveyed employee said of Sentinel, "I feel part of a family as much as a world class organization. Sentinel provides strong work/life balance as well as strong job stability with fair compensation."

Flexco, 2525 Wisconsin Ave., was ranked 11th among mid-size companies. The company, which was also ranked in 2010, is a leading global manufacturer of mechanical conveyor belt fasteners and related products. It was founded in 1907, and currently employs 325 in the Chicago area, according to the Tribune.

One surveyed employee said of Flexco, "They believe that great results are achieved through individual accountability, measurement and focus on the right things."

Premier Wealth Group, a financial services company located at 2650 Warrenville Road in Downers Grove, did not finish in the top of its category, but was recognized for meeting key Top Workplace standards.

Oak Brook-based Advocate Health Care, which boasts 31,863 employees, ranked 11th among large companies in Chicago, according to the Tribune. The company has 10 hospitals, one of which is located in Downers Grove (Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, 3815 Highland Ave.).

One employee said of Advocate, "It is a work place where love really is demonstrated regularly. Before now, I have never been part of an organization that care so much about its associates."

The winners of the Tribune's 2012 Top Workplaces were determined by surveying employees at Chicago-area companies about their overall job experience.

A total of 1,629 companies were invited to participate. Of those, 254 companies completed the survey, allowing the Tribune to determine the top 100 companies in three categories: small (fewer than 250 employees), mid-size (250-999 employees) and large (1,000 or more employees).

According to the Chicago Tribune, the surveyed companies employ 171,463 people in the Chicago area, of which 121,128 received surveys and 80,519 responded.
