Lemon Tree Grocer, Metra Station a Match Made in Commuter Heaven

Morning commuters, brace your senses for the fresh scent of Lemon Tree's baked goodies and coffee wafting over you at the Main Street Metra station.

Morning commuters, if you swooped out of your house without grabbing your daily cup o' joe, you're in luck.

Lemon Tree Grocer has moved into the Main Street Metra station, 5001 Main St., and will offer its baked goods, coffee and more morning goodies from 5 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.

"We're so excited to see more of the morning commuters," said grocery manager Jessica Bloom.

Lemon Tree began their five-year lease in the space Jan. 1, and currently offers scones, croissants, bagels and coffee. Staff decided to keep the same hours, to maintain consistency of the former tenant John Dough Bakery's offerings, but the hours—like the menu—will evolve. They plan to add hot breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit cups, granola bars—"grab-n-go" types of menu items, Bloom said.

"We're excited to learn more about what the commuters want," Bloom said.

Lemon Tree owner Shaun Black worked with the Village of Downers Grove to shape the details of Lemon Tree's stay at the station.

"We have a great relationship with the village," Black said. "They really care about supporting the businesses that support the community."

Bloom said while they're keeping things basic for now, Lemon Tree will add its own special twists to the morning commute in the weeks to come.

"We're starting super-simple," Bloom said. "We want to be sure everyone has their morning coffee, because it's so important!"
