New Car Wash, Repair Shop Coming to Ogden Avenue

A new car wash and repair shop will open later this year in Downers Grove.

The Downers Grove village council voted unanimously May 21 to issue a special use permit for Ogden Main Auto Spa, which will be located in the eastern half of the building at 946 Ogden Ave. The other portion is occupied by Mr. Trim, an automobile upholstery shop, and the second floor houses office space.

Ogden Main Auto Spa will primarily offer hand detailing, power washes and interior cleaning, with limited use of mechanical equipment—as opposed to a "tunnel style" car wash. It will also provide basic repair and maintenance services, such as oil changes, radiator flushing, brake service and tune-ups.

The owner, Hesham El Defrawy, plans to renovate the eastern half of the building to create seven interior service bays—four for detailing, one for minor repairs, and two for intake and evaluation.

In February, the village council awarded Defrawy $87,000 to renovate the building as part of the Ogden Avenue Site Improvement Strategy. Those renovations are scheduled to occur this spring, according to village documents.

Defrawy said at a previous meeting that Ogden Main Auto Spa will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The business will be closed on Sundays.
