Parent Company Could Sell Jewel

Grocery chain Jewel could be sold off by parent company Supervalu

Despite analysts boosting the ratings for Jewel's parent company Supervalu, the fate of the company and its chains—including Jewel—is unknown.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the company has opened its books to potential buyers, and a recent Chicago Tribune story indicated the company could look to sell off parts or all of itself as it attempts to find its place in an ever-increasing competitive market.

In this region, Jewel's primary competition used to be Dominick's, but that's no longer the case and Jewel—along with many other grocery chains—have struggled as more grocery options offering different levels of prices and product have eaten away at Jewel's audience.
