A downtown Downers Grove Italian restaurant shut its doors late last month, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The husband-and-wife owners of Scarletti's Italian Kitchen, 944 Warren Ave., decided to close shop because of the time it took running the restaurant and a desire to instead use that time to spend with their families, the report stated.

Paul Giagnorio and Pam Kellam, who opened Scarletti's in late 2010, announced the closing of the restaurant at the end of June in a written message to customers.

"We felt working together as a team with a common goal would be a wonderful experience … and a great deal of it was just that," the note stated. "However, what we didn't realize was that we would have so little quality time together or with our family. We have missed many flagship family events these past few years and there have been several others that only one of us could attend while the other stayed behind to manage the restaurant."

I hope that an Einstein's, a Panera or Corner Bakery opens up there. It's something DG doesn't have and would be a perfect location near the train. I'd love to have another choice other than Italian in DG. It would be great for families too!

I hope they put Harold's Chicken Shack #47, or Los Comales #19. We need DIVERSITY!

Please NO MORE Italian restaurants! We need a sandwich shop like Sho-Fly Pie used to be or Village Gourmet in Clarendon Hills. Berto's Deli is OK but there is room for another!

I agree with Denise and Adria. We do need more diversity in Cuisine choices. Italian may be popular, but its over done in our town. I am sorry to see Scarletti's leave, but happy this family will enjoy much needed time together.

Scarletti's has been one of my husband and my favorite restaurants. We will miss them and their fine service and cuisine. We wish them the very best and totally understand their decision.
