1. Village Council reconvenes tonight

The Downers Grove Village Council gets down to business after a three-week break.  The agenda includes a bid to award $65,946.00 to Insituform Technologies USA Inc. for a storm sewer rehabilitation project on Prospect Avenue between Lincoln and Chicago avenues.

Summer hits hard today, with widespread haze, sunny skies and a high near 94 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. But that's not the worst of it: The heat index could reach 99. Offering a little relief will be southwest winds between five and 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. More haze tonight with lows of about 74 degrees.

3. Sandack to host CUB clinic

State Sen. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) will host a free Citizens Utility Board Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, June 9 at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave. The event will provide constituents with tips and tricks for saving money on their telephone bill. Staff will also be available to go over the phone bills of participants. Reservations are available by calling Sandack's district office at 630-792-0040.

CUB's mission is to promote the health, welfare and prosperity of Illinois citizens by ensuring the effective and democratic representation of utility customers.

4. Olive Tap sells far and wide

While Downers Grove residents are close enough to drop into the Olive Tap for oils, vinegars and other specialties, the store also operates an online store for the convenience of out-of-towners. The online store sells gourmet sauces, marinades, spices and herbs, tapenades and accessories in addition to the house specialties.

5. Biggert wants to hear from vets

Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-13) will host a town hall meeting tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Levy Center, 251 Canterbury Lane, Bolingbrook. Biggert, who will be joined by Sharon Helman, director of Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, and Duane Honeycutt, VA regional director, will gather input from area veterans about the proposed facility at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, as well as other service initiatives targeted at meeting the needs of local veterans.
