Problems That Delayed Rush-Hour Trains Have Been Repaired

Switching malfunctions and another mechanical problem affected a number of trains.

Mechanical problems, which caused delays for rush-hour trains Tuesday evening and this morning on Metra's Burlington Northern Santa Fe line, have been identified and repaired, a Metra spokeswoman said.

Switches at Downers Grove/Fairview failed to respond to remote controls Tuesday, so Metra personnel had to go the site and manually maneuver train traffic until remote signaling was restored. Fifteen trains were affected, causing delays for commuters traveling west.

An air hose on one of the eastbound trains malfunctioned at the start of the Wednesday morning commute, but has since been repaired. The spokeswoman did not yet have the number of trains affected, but she said it was not as disruptive as Tuesday's situation.
