There's No Stopping the Sidewalk Sale

Despite sizzling temperatures and occasional deluges, downtown merchants welcomed buyers with bargains.

In spite of sizzling temperatures and occasional deluges, the streets of downtown Downers Grove blossomed with merchandise July 21 through 24 as member merchants of the Downers Grove Downtown Management Corp. held their annual sidewalk sale.

"Our poor businesses were in and out and in and out," said Linda Kunze, downtown manager. "First the heat and then the rain." 

While the weather forced merchants to bring their sidewalk offerings inside for part of the sale, the results were positive.

"We were concerned obviously with the weather," said Amanda Schulz of , 5122 Main St. "But all things considered, we are very happy with how things went. We had a great turnout and moved a lot of things."
