Village Issues Statement On July 23 Decision to Activate Storm Sirens

Message was posted today on the Village of Downers Grove website.

Facing yet more fallout from during a July 23 thunderstorm, the Village of Downers Grove posted an explanatory statement on its website Monday.

The statement reads as follows:

On Saturday July 23, 2011 the Village activated the outdoor warning sirens at 3:19 AM and 3:25 AM, based on information from the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DuPage County OHSEM) of multiple reports of funnel cloud activity in the areas of Route 83 and Irving Park Road in Bensenville and Route 53 and Butterfield Road near Downers Grove.

In both instances, the warning sirens were activated immediately following the DuPage County OHSEM alerts.  

The Village is aware that sirens were also activated in the towns of Bartlett, Carol Stream, Darien, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hanover Park, Lombard, Oakbrook Terrace, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton and Woodridge.
