Highland School Class Wins Fire Department Contest

Eileen Boyer's fourth-grade class at Highland School won in two of the three categories in this year's DGFD safety brochure design contest.

Elaine Boyer’s fourth-grade class at Highland School was a two-time winner in the 2011 Downers Grove Fire Department brochure design contest.

Fire Chief Jim Jackson and Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully honored the class at the May 10 Downers Grove Village Council meeting for their winning contributions to this year's contest.

Each fourth grade Learn Not to Burn class was asked to submit a design for a tri-fold safety brochure. The brochure will be distributed with fire department programs to educate the community about fire safety and first aid during the 2011-12 school year.

The three contest categories were cover design, 10 important fire safety tips, and five important first aid tips. Boyer’s class won for cover design and First Aid tips.
