Downers Grove-In a tight heated rival game and inclement weather coming over the night sky this past Saturday night in Downers Grove. The Buccaneers saw themselves down by 15 with a 1:45 left to play in the 3rd quarter, but looking at a fourth and long for the visiting L-W Patriots and the Buccaneers getting the ball back with possible good field position. The game was suspended due to the weather and most likely will be played later in the season said 1st year Head Coach Vernon McCants. I was happy with the way our guys were playing up to that point, a few mistakes that we corrected at half time.
The Buccaneers came out Saturday Night teams with a chip on its shoulder after the embarrassing loss the previous week to the Chicago Thunder. “We didn’t play up to our potential “, said rookie WR/DB # 4 Ty Mangino. I made mistakes in that game and I let my coaches know that I did after the game. For the second week in the row the Buccaneers Defense allow an opening drive to start the game. That is unacceptable said Veteran # 33 Ryan Buchanan. That is not us, and it puts our team in a bad position starting the game out, knowing that we have to play from behind. The Buccaneers had the Patriots 3 and long at their own 16 before Pats got a first down to extend the drive 2 plays later the Pats strike first. On the Buccaneers opening drive the Buccaneers started in their own territory. It looked as though that the Bucs drive would be stalled until a 15 yard personnel foul (facemask) penalty, gave new life to the offense. Rookie Quarterback # 3 Dominique Banks hits veteran TE # 88 Rafael Parker for a huge pass play that helped set the Buccaneers first score. I was very impressed with the running game said Offensive Coach Matt Lincoln. We made adjustment over the week leading up to this game, and # 19 Jordan Hoffman had some nice runs up the middle; also long time veteran # 24 Michael Ingram was running well too. The Buccaneers got on the board with Hoffman score off the right side on the line to cut the lead to 1, the PAT was missed and the Bucs trailed by 1.
The Buccaneers Defense arouse to the occasion by causing the pats to go three and out, setting up a scoring chance when the kicker mishandled the ball and was tackled for a loss deep in Bucs territory. The Bucs offense was not able to capitalize not able to move the ball, and missed a chance at a field goal on a bad snap.
Buccaneers defense allowed a huge run by a Pats running back and the Pats lead extended by 8 , on the next Buccaneers drive a turnover by the Buccaneers offense which was returned for a Pats touchdown extended the lead to 15.
We made our adjustments at half-time said Assist Head Coach Andre Ward, and those adjustments started to work, but after another fumble cause the Buccaneers drive to stall, and a back and forth between the offense and defense on both sides. “That is where the game was suspended due to weather”, said CEO/ General Manager Sandra Geib- Ingram. We don’t know what the league will do, but this game could come down to who wants it more later on when replayed.
The Buccaneers will be off this week as the team from Terra Haute Indiana folded before the start of the season. So the Buccaneers will pick up a win for the game without touching the field. We would rather play the game said, Banks. I just feel as though that the offense was coming together and it was feeling good. The Buccaneers will be back on the field to host on August 3rd at Downers Grove the Indiana Generals.
