Park District Receives Donation
Pierce Downer Heritage Alliance donates $1,000 for the Little Sprouts program.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – At the December 15, 2011 Park Board meeting, Ken Lerner of the Pierce Downer Heritage Alliance presented a check for $1,000 to the for the Little Sprouts program at . The Pierce Downer Heritage Alliance has supported this program since 2007.
Little Sprouts was piloted in 2003 and has become part of the District 58 first grade curriculum. Students visit Lyman Woods in October each year to learn about the plant lifecycle. The Park District’s Natural Areas staff sets up four stations with one inside the interpretive center and three outdoors. Lerner stated, “Often, this program is a child’s first experience with nature past the back yard and the sidewalk by his or her home.”
