Community Invited to Midwestern University's Mini-Medical School

Community members can learn about current topics in healthcare at Midwestern University’s Mini-Medical School. The Mini-Medical School will be held from 6:30 to 8:15 pm on February 27th, March 6th, March 13th, and March 20th at the University’s campus located at 555 31st Street in Downers Grove.

Each lecture is presented by a healthcare professional at Midwestern University which is the home of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Chicago College of Pharmacy, the College of Health Sciences, and College of Dental Medicine-Illinois. The Mini Medical School welcomes students from the community of all ages (adult, college, and high school) who are interested in learning about interesting and important healthcare topics. Topics to be covered include:

  • How being a D.O. is unique and beneficial for patients – gain information about the unique training and skills a D.O. student acquires becoming a physician and how that knowledge and skill is applied in actual patient care.

  • “Taste of Dentistry” – learn about the College of Dental Medicine-Illinois and experience the dental simulation lab featuring patient mannequins, projects in radiology, a plaster lab, dental restorations, and the use of dental microscopes.

  • Anxiety and Depression: Biopsychosocial Issues –discover the most common clinical issues surrounding anxiety and depression in the general population and review effective intervention strategies to mitigate the negative consequences.

  • The Beauty of the Human Heart –explore the anatomical structure and function of the heart through a hands-on opportunity in the University’s anatomy laboratory.

  • Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are able to register for individual dates. The cost of the entire program is $25; a single session is $10.
