Midwestern Students Celebrate National Osteopathic Week

Midwestern University students celebrated National Osteopathic Medicine (NOM) Week in April with a variety of community service projects, educational events, and a proclamation by the Village of Downers Grove, IL. Students from Midwestern’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) participated in the events to increase awareness about their chosen field of osteopathic medicine and to promote healthy lifestyles.

At the Village Council Meeting, Downers Grove Mayor Martin T. Tully read a proclamation that declared April 13th to 19th as National Osteopathic Awareness Week and praised the students and Midwestern University for their service to the community. Mayor Tully said, “Downers Grove is home to one of the nation’s finest osteopathic colleges – the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine – which educates more than 800 pre-doctoral and 200 post-doctoral students each year who are committed to providing service to the Downers Grove community through health fairs, outreach projects, and special events.”

Several students from CCOM attended the Village Council meeting to show their support and help spread the word about osteopathic medicine. “Midwestern has been a part of the Downers Grove community since 1988 and we are thankful for all the support we have received from the village throughout the years,” said Shaun Mehdi, a first-year osteopathic medicine student at CCOM. “This week is dedicated to promoting the distinct care osteopathic physicians provide to their patients. Not only are we seeking to increase the visibility of the osteopathic profession, but NOM Week, in particular, is also about giving back to our community.”
