15 Koi Fish Worth $1,100 Stolen From Downers Yard: Police Blotter

SUNDAY, JULY 7

Koi Fish Taken

About 15 multi-colored Koi fish were taken from a backyard pond on the 800 block of Maple Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 8 a.m. July 4 and 10:30 a.m. July 7. All eight of the owner's large Koi fish were gone, as well as about seven baby Koi. The owner has had the Koi pond for about eight years and has never had a fish taken by an animal or person before. The owner did not have any specific suspect information, but she did find an empty beer can by the pond when she returned home on July 7. 

The large missing Koi fish measure about 10 to 12 inches each. She purchased all of them when they were babies at about $75 each, but the large ones can sell at upwards of $800 in pet stores, according to a police report.

TUESDAY, JULY 2

Man Walks off With $300 Camera Lens

A man took a $300 camera lens without paying for it on the 7400 block of Lemont Road. Video surveillance shows the man enter a store at 1:49 p.m. He picked up a display camera, unscrewed the lens and later left the store, according to a police report. The man was described as white, in his late 40s and weighing 250 to 300 lbs. He wore a white t-shirt, blue jeans, black hat and black tennis shoes.

MONDAY, JULY 1

Girls Bike Stolen

A 24-inch girls bicycle was taken from a garage on the 1000 block of Carol. The incident occurred sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The garage door was left ajar while a mother and child were in the backyard. Nothing else was missing. The purple Resonance DBX bicycle was valued at $160.

MONDAY, JUNE 24

Gutter on House Damaged

A gutter on the west side of a home was damaged on the 6000 block of Osage Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between June 5 and noon June 24. "The gutter was bent in several places and it had been pulled from the siding, as if someone was trying to get on to their roof from that location," the police report said. The damage was estimated at $100.
