Apartment Resident Faces Aggravated Battery, Disorderly Conduct Charges

Police charge man after he allegedly broke window, pounded on doors, threatened officer.

A Downers Grove man was charged with aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct Feb. 11 after breaking a window in an apartment building in 5600 block of Walnut Ave., gouging the door of another apartment and throwing a cup that hit a police officer in the head.

Neighbors called police after Kevin T. Bush, 33, a resident of the building, pounded on their doors and broke a window in the lobby of the building at about 8:45 p.m. The neighbors observed Bush through peepholes and told police they were concerned for their safety. The two officers responding to the call had previously visited Bush on Feb. 7 after he complained about the smell of Indian food in the building.

Police said Bush was uncooperative, swearing at them and taunting them, saying they needed to get a warrant if they wanted to arrest him and slamming the door to his apartment. A downstairs resident and the property manager agreed to sign complaints and police were able to take Bush into custody when he came out of his apartment to open a hall window.

Police said Bush kicked the windows and metal barrier in the squad car and refused to sign booking papers at the station. He acknowledged having eight beers that evening and at one point threatened to come back when he was sober and kill an officer, according to the police report. While in a booking room, Bush threw a cup of water at one officer and hit him in the head. Bush was later transported to DuPage County Jail for bond court.
