“I am extremely proud of the phenomenal teamwork exhibited by the various law enforcement agencies involved in this case,” Downers Grove Police Chief Robert Porter said in a news advisory. “This was a very dangerous situation placing the public at risk. It was the quick and pro-active law enforcement response that resulted in the successful apprehension of three dangerous individuals.”

Their next court appearance is June 9 in front of Judge John Kinsella for arraignment.

At least seven incidents of armed robbery or attempted armed robbery have been reported in the western suburbs in the past few weeks, including Downers Grove, Woodridge, Darien and Westmont. Although there are discrepancies in modus operandi, police aren’t ruling out if the incidents are related.

“This is highly unusual,” Downers Grove police spokesman Lt. Michael Willison said. “We don’t usually get a rash of armed robberies like this.”
