Blotter: Retail Theft, Graffiti on Deck

Items from Downers Grove Police reports for Feb. 11-20

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Wednesday, Feb. 16

12:13 p.m.: Lorese C. Fletcher, 22, of Aurora was charged with retail theft and possession of cannabis after allegedly taking a sweatshirt valued at $26 and five pairs of underwear valued at $35 from Kohl’s, 2920 Finley Road. A loss prevention employee observed Fletcher take a sweatshirt and five pairs of underwear into a dressing room area and come out without the items. The employee stopped Fletcher outside of the store and once inside the security office, Fletcher removed the items from her purse. Police said a bag containing 5.17 grams of cannabis was found on Fletcher during a routine search.

9:44 p.m.: A cell phone valued at $40 was reported missing from the triage area at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, 3815 Highland Ave., between 9 p.m. and 9:20 p.m.

11:04 p.m.: A large “S” was spray-painted on a wall of the Downers Grove Parking Deck at 945 Curtiss Ave. A public works employee who discovered the graffiti on the fifth floor of the parking garage said a similar “S” was painted on a wall at the Fairview Train Station.

Saturday, Feb. 19

10:57 a.m.: A rear window of a Jeep was shattered at Intown Suites, 2540 Ogden Ave., between 9:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. Police said glass marbles were thrown at the window causing $250 in damage.

8:04 p.m. Carlene M. Blizzard, 46, of Downers Grove was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop near Curtiss Avenue and Katrine Avenue. An officer stopped Blizzard after observing her drive her pickup truck  in the wrong lane of traffic and turn onto Curtiss. After a check of Blizzard’s license revealed a warrant for resisting a police officer in DuPage County, she was taken into custody. Police said while moving Blizzard’s truck to a parking lot and retrieving her coat and purse, a box commonly used for smoking cannabis fell out of the purse. A plastic bag found in her coat pocket contained nine rolled cannabis cigarettes and another container in her purse also contained cannabis, police said.

8:56 p.m.: Items valued at $730 were taken from Jewel-Osco, 1148 Ogden Ave., by a woman identified by a loss prevention employee as responsible for earlier thefts at Jewel stores in Orland Park, Hickory Hills and Oak Lawn. The employee observed the woman allegedly place baby formula, four packages of Crest whitening strips, and six  packages of Rogaine into a bag and leave the store without paying for the items. The employee observed her get into a bronze four-door Oldsmobile or Buick  that sped off westbound on Ogden Avenue. Police said an officer responding to the call from that direction did not see the described car. The woman was described as 25 to 40 years old, 5’10” and 250 pounds.

Sunday, Feb. 20

2.34 p.m.: A woman reported her wallet containing a debit card, personal checks and $30 in cash had been taken at Ultra Foods, 1212 75th St., between 11:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. The wallet was removed from her purse while it was in the shopping cart, the woman told Police. She went home make sure her wallet was not there, called her bank and was told her debit card had already been used at a gas station. She cancelled the card and put a stop payment on the checks in her wallet.
