Cannabis Charges, Vandalism Reported

Items from Downers Grove Police reports for March 11-13

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Wednesday, March 9

4:45 p.m.: Jeffrey P. Sabia, 24, of the 7300 block of Canterbury Place in Downers Grove, was charged by Orland Park police with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they questioned Sabia about j-walking across LaGrange Road at 153rd Street and found marijuana and a pipe on him.

Friday, March 11

8:57 a.m.: A van hatch door sustained $300 in damage after it was dented at a residence in the 7200 block of Dexter Road. The damage occurred between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. March 10.

10:12 a.m.: A car's roof was egged in the 4800 block of Prospect Avenue between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. March 10. Police said the owner wanted the incident reported in case there was damage to the paint after cleaning the car.

Saturday, March 12

12:28 p.m.: A window and sliding glass door were broken in the 5900 block of Fairview Avenue between 11a.m. March 11 and 10 a.m. March 12. Police said it is not known what caused the damage, estimated at $1,800. Entry was not gained. 

6:28 p.m.: Saul Rodriguez, 22, of Villa Park was charged with retail theft at Fry’s Electronics, 3300 Finley Road, after allegedly taking a 2Pac CD valued at $12.98. An employee observed Rodriguez on surveillance cameras allegedly open the CD packaging, remove the CD and place it in the pocket of shorts he wore under his jeans. Rodriguez was leaving the store when he was stopped by the employee and police were called.

9:35 p.m.: A car parked at Belmont East Apartments, 4835 Belmont Road, was stolen between 9:25 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. Police said the owner had left the car running to warm up.

Sunday, March 13

7:32 p.m.: A sign at the corner of Cornell and Hitchcock avenues was vandalized. The sign, warning that cross traffic does not stop and located under the stop sign, was spray painted red.

11:09 p.m.: Jordan M. Williams, 20, of DeKalb was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis and improper lighting after being pulled over at 63rd Street and Woodward Avenue. Police said Williams had been stopped for having a missing headlight when the officer detected an odor of cannabis. The officer asked Williams about the odor and Williams allegedly handed over a glass smoking pipe and a baggie containing the cannabis.
