Car Burglary on Woodward, Marijuana Possession: Police Blotter

Downers Grove police reports, Aug. 9-14.

TUESDAY, AUG. 14

Car burglary

A buck knife and loose coins were stolen from a car parked overnight on the 6400 block of Woodward Avenue, said. The owner said he usually locks his doors but may have forgotten. The items were worth about $65.

Marijuana possession

Matthew D. Myers, 22, no address listed, was arrested around 10:06 a.m. at Caribou Coffee, 5100 Main St., police said. Police took Myers into custody on an unrelated warrant and found a small plastic bag containing a green leafy substance in his pants’ pocket, according to the report. Officers said they also found two glass pipes with a green leafy residue inside the bowl. Myers was charged on the warrant, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis.

Damaged garbage cans

Someone dented and broke the lids and wheels of several garbage containers, possibly with a car, around 10 p.m. on the 5700 block of Washington, police said. There were tire marks on the front of the resident’s lawn, police said. The garbage containers were worth about $100.

Stolen picnic table

A picnic table worth about $100 was taken overnight from a home on the 00 block of 2nd Street in Downers Grove, police said. A fire pit was moved from its normal spot but was still on the property.

THURSDAY, AUG. 9

Vandalized mailbox

Someone broke a mailbox off its post overnight on the 4100 block of Sterling Road, police said. The mailbox was worth about $90.

MONDAY, AUG. 6

Stolen bike

A Red Mongoose BMX bicycle worth about $100 was stolen around 4 p.m. from the Downers Grove Park District Recreation Center, 4500 Belmont Rd., police said. The bicycle was locked to a rack outside the rec center and left there for several days before the owner returned and found it missing.
