Car Stolen Overnight, Retail Theft Stopped: Police Blotter

THURSDAY, MAY 23

Drug Equipment Possession

Downers Grove residents Andrew C. Bellavia, of the 400 block of 63rd Street, and Adam L. Jensen, 19, of the 5300 block of Florence Avenue, both 19, were cited with possession of drug equipment following an 3:21 a.m. traffic stop on Florence Avenue near 6th Street. Police noticed a 1996 Infiniti parked facing southbound occupied by two individuals, according to a police report.
An officer exited his squad car and immediately a passenger began to exit the vehicle. Police smelled a burnt odor coming from the vehicle and conducted a search of the men. Police found a long blue glass pipe with burnt resident, a small black metal grinder, a purple bag with more pipe, another metal grinder and a digital scale, the report said.
Bellavia and Jensen were placed into handcuffs and taken to the Downers Grove police department for booking and processing. They were released on I-bond and will appear at the Downers Grove Field Court on a to-be-decided court date.

Stolen Registration Sticker

A 46-year-old woman reported her $101 Illinois registration sticker missing from his vehicle license plate on the 5100 block of Blodgett Avenue. The sticker went missing sometime between 12:35 a.m. May 20 and 12:35 a.m. May 23. During this time her 1999 tan Oldsmobile was parked an an auto shop at Ogden Avenue and Main Street or in her parking lot. There were scratch marks on her plate where the registration sticker was located. There were no known suspect and she has not seen any suspicious activity in her lot or near her vehicle.

Retail Theft Thwarted

A man tried to take a $299 Echo Chainsaw from a store on the 2000 block of Butterfield Road. The man met another man in the parking lot who purchased the same chainsaw at 2:30 p.m. He received the receipt from the other man, walked into the store and picked up the same chainsaw as the first man. When he was approached by store security, the man held up the first man's receipt and said he paid for the item. He then handed the receipt to security, dropped the chainsaw and ran out of the store. Security chased him down the street to Butterfield and Lloyd, where they saw him jump in the back bed of a white Ford pickup that tok off north on Lloyd.

Vehicle Stolen From Parking Lot

Someone took a silver 2002 Honda Accord from a parking lot on the 7300 block of Lemont Road. The incident occurred sometime between 10 p.m. May 15 and 7:30 a.m. May 16. The owner was shopping in a store and noticed she did not have her car key. She called a service to have the car opened and could not locate the car. She decided to leave the car in the lot overnight while she looked into obtaining a copy of the key. When she returned the next morning, the car was gone. There was no broken glass at the scene. The Honda was valued at $5,000, according to a police report.
