Car Sprayed with Silly String, Propane Tanks Reported Stolen

Items from Downers Grove Police Reports for May 14-16

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Saturday, May 14

6:38 a.m.: A car was sprayed with Silly String and trees were duck taped at 9:45 p.m. at a home in the 4900 block of Stonewall Avenue. A resident came outside to find two teens fleeing his property. Silly String was discovered on a car in the driveway and silver duct tape was strung between two trees in the fenced yard of the home. The resident said the home was egged and toilet paper had been strung in the trees over the past few weeks. Those incidents had occurred between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on a Friday or Saturday night.

2:27 p.m.: An east wall of Little People Daycare, 2142 Curtiss Ave., was graffitied between noon May 12 and noon May 14. Police said blue and black spray paint was used to write the words “VIZE” and “MINE” on the wall. Damage was estimated at $100.

4:16 p.m.: Seven propane tanks valued at $419.93 were taken from Walgreens, 6240 Belmont Road, between 10 p.m. May 13 and 4 p.m. May 14. A manager told police he found a lock missing from the outside storage area. An inventory determined seven tanks had been taken.

7:16 p.m.: A contractor reported tools were taken from an unoccupied home in the 4700 block of Prince Street between 5 p.m. May 12 and 4 p.m. May 14. The homeowner called the contractor after discovering the front door unlocked and ajar. The contractor stated he locked the bottom lock of the door but not the deadbolt when he left the home on May 12. Police said there were possible pry marks on the inside door jamb but no damage to the outside door jamb, door or lock area. An air compressor, nail gun and two floor staplers were missing.

Monday, May 16

12:18 a.m.: A window was shattered and a purse taken from a car parked at Xsport Fitness, 3200 Finley Road, between 9:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. The purse, containing $200 in cash, a $50 cell phone, a driver’s license, three credit cards, one debit card and an insurance card, was underneath a blanket on the front passenger side floor. Police said the front passenger side window was broken to gain entry. A pair of black sweatpants with a logo from Lincoln-Way Central High School was found on the ground at the rear of the car.
