Chicago Headline Club Calls on Judge to Withdraw Order to Reveal Confidential Source

Patch editor must turn over documents within 21 days, judge rules.

Written by Dennis Robaugh

The Chicago Headline Club issued a statement Saturday in support of Patch Media and its editor, Joseph Hosey, who was ordered by a Will County judge on Friday to reveal a confidential source.

"The ability of a journalist to protect his/her sources when necessary is a crucial tool in the collection of information to establish facts and verify truth. The CHC strongly opposes Will County Circuit Judge Gerald Kinney's order that Joseph Hosey of Patch.com violate his promise of confidentiality by revealing sources for his stories on the Joliet murders," reads the Headline Club statement. "CHC calls on Judge Kinney to withdraw the order issued to reporter Joseph Hosey."

Patch Media intends to appeal the ruling.
