Competing Home Restoration Reps Get into Physical Fight

Theft, disorderly conduct among reports.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Downers Grove Police Department:

Battery

A rejected handshake led to representatives from competing home restoration companies getting into a fight on January 4 in the 5400 block of Fairhaven Court. Both men—former coworkers—were at the location to solicit business from a homeowner recently affected by a fire.

Theft Under $500

A brown baby jesus statue valued at $100 was stolen from the front lawn of a residence in the 4900 block of Lee Ave sometime overnight on December 23.

A Blackberry Bold cellphone and $200 in cash were stolen from a locked locker at XSport Fitness on January 7 sometime between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m..

A woman pumped $39 worth of gas and drove off without paying from the Speedway on Fairview January 8 around 1:30 p.m..

Theft of Lost Property

A woman who forget her credit card at Kohl's on Finley on November 7 realized she was missing the card when her statement came in with fraudulent purchases she never made.

Found Property

A baggie with 2.45 grams of marijuana was found in the jacket pocket of a patient in the emergency room at Good Sam hospital on January 7. Hospital policy dictates a call to DGPD, but the person who found the baggie was unable to provide any info on which patient it came from.

Burglary From Motor Vehicle

Two cars parked next to each other in the La Mex parking lot on 75th had their windows smashed and broken into January 6 between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.. An iPhone was stolen from one car and a orange duffle bag and miscellaneous clothing were taken from the other.

Theft Over $500

An unlocked burgundy Univega Alpina mountain bike valued at $550 was stolen from a residence in the 5600 block of Brookbank sometime between January 1 and January 6.

An unknown offender removed a Blackberry Bold cellphone from its display at the Verizon Wireless store on Butterfield and stole it on January 5 sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.. The phone was valued at $510.

A $3,000 laptop was stolen from a car parked outside of Carlucci Restaurant on Butterfield on January 5 sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.. The laptop was put on the rear floor of the car, and an unknown subject smashed one of the car's windows to get at the laptop.

An estimated $11,000 of jewelry—including wedding bands, gold and diamond rings, necklaces and more—was noticed missing from the jewelry box of a resident in the 3600 block of Venard on December 27.

A black Android My Touch cellphone was stolen from the front desk at XSport Fitness on January 5 around 11:30 p.m.. The victim said he left his phone at the front desk and went outside to smoke. When he realized he forgot his phone, he went back in to get it and found it missing. The victim called the phone and no one answered, but shortly after he received a call back from the phone and the person said they had the phone and would return it the next day, but didn't. The phone was valued at $500.

Disorderly Conduct

A complainant told DGPD a former employee unhappy with the amount of time it was taking to receive his final paycheck came to the complainant's house in the 7400 block of Blackburn on December 26 at 9 a.m. and started ringing the doorbell for 20 minutes before running around the residence yelling for the complainant to come to the door. The complainant threatened to call the police and the offender left.

Two subjects were told to leave and never return to the Jewel Osco on Ogden after causing a scene in the store on January 7. The store manager told DGPD the two subjects were yelling and swearing in the store, and as the store manager and DGPD officer spoke, the two subjects continued to cause a scene by swearing and calling everyone racists.

Criminal Damage to Property

Unknown offenders entered the locked and secured deck area of the pool the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club sometime either January 4 and January 5 and stole a $1,000 pool pump as well as damaging multiple pool chairs and a concrete post. Numerous beer cans were scattered throughout the deck and pool property. The damage was estimated at $500.

Malicious Mischief

An unknown offender pelted a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 6900 block of Springside with eggs on January 7.

Retail Theft

Michael Garner—23 of 9S360 Highland Road in Burr Ridge—was charged with one count of felony retail theft and transported to DuPage County Jail after being caught allegedly attempting to steal over $300 worth of electronics from Fry's Electronics on Finley January 7.
