Convicted Burglar Charged in 2012 Downers Grove Case

Steven Mantucca, a convicted burglar currently serving time at Western Correctional Center in Mount Sterling, was charged June 27 in connection with a 2012 residential burglary in Downers Grove.

A man already serving time for multiple burglaries was charged last month in connection with a 2012 residential burglary in Downers Grove, police said.

Steven Mantucca, 50, of the 2100 block of Warren Boulevard in Chicago, was charged June 26 with one count of felony residential burglary, according to Downers Grove Police Lt. Mike Willison.

Mantucca is currently being held at Western Correctional Center in Mount Sterling, IL, on unrelated charges, Willison said.

On June 28, 2012, Downers Grove police responded to the 4900 block of Saratoga for a report of a burglary in progress. The resident indicated that she had walked in her apartment and observed a man coming out of her bedroom. The man ran from the apartment as she called the police. 

DNA recovered from the apartment identified Mantucca as a suspect, Willison said.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Mantucca was convicted in February of attempted residential burglary in Cook County, and is currently serving a nine-year sentence. He was convicted in March 2007 of residential burglary in Will County, which carried a sentence of eight years and six months. 

Mantucca has eight burglary convictions dating back to 1981, and another two for attempted burglary. He has also been convicted of theft, forgery and unlawful restraint, according to the IDOC website.

His projected parole date is Aug. 6, 2017 and his projected discharge date is Aug. 6, 2020.
