DG Man Charged With Aggravated Assault After Outside Spat

The 51-year-old held a metal flashlight in his hand as he argued with another man, according to a police report.

A 51-year-old Downers Grove man is headed to court after getting into a heated argument Sunday with another man on the village's north side, according to police.

George A. Brown, 51, of the 4100 block of Downers Drive, was charged with aggravated assault. Three officers responded to the block at 6:58 p.m. for a report of two men arguing loudly.

The man that Brown was arguing with is the boyfriend of Brown's wife's friend, police said. The argument appeared to stem from a previous incident where Brown called the boyfriend's son a "dumb ass," according to a police report.

During the argument, the other man said Brown walked over to him holding a metal flashlight and threatened to kill him with it. Brown then walked backed into his house, came back out and continued the argument, the report said.

At this point Brown threw rounds of Remington .223 of ammunition at him, the man told police. Brown told the man "here's the bullets go kill yourself," according to the report.

"(Brown) denied throwing the ammunition at him but did not deny having a flashlight in his hand while they argued," police said.

During the argument, Brown told the man that he was an (expletive) for not talking to him about the earlier incident involving the man's son, the report said.

Brown was arrested and taken to the Downers Grove Police Department. He was booked, charged and served with a complaint for aggravated assault. He did not wish to complete a written statement, but the other man involved in the incident did provide one, the report said.

Brown was released on I-bond with an Oct. 30 court date.

Parts of the police report for this incident provided to the media were redacted.
