Police responded at about 1:33 a.m. to a call for an armed robbery at the Mobil gas station in the 1600 block of Route 59. The man fled the area before officers arrived, but police were given a description of the man and the vehicle he was driving—a black four-door vehicle with temporary plates.

"At the time of the robbery he had his hand in pocket and the clerk assumed he had a gun," said Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell.

Alexander got away with less than $100 from the gas station, which had one employee working at the time, Bell said.

Naperville officers spotted a vehicle travelling east on Interstate 88 near Butterfield Road and Interstate 355, which resembled the description of the man and the vehicle, police said. While attempting to stop the driver, Alexander crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.

While trying to negotiate a curve, Alexander hit a raised median in the roadway and took out three of his tires, Bell said.

Officers from the Downers Grove Police Department later caught Alexander at about 5:36 a.m., Bell said.

Alexander was later positively identified in a line up back at the Naperville Police Department, Bell said. He was still being held in the DuPage County Jail on $400,000 bail Friday afternoon, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
