The Downers Grove Police Department is participating in a yearlong initiative that focuses on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement on specific holidays, including Memorial Day. This initiative is in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and is funded with an IDOT traffic grant totaling $33,000.00. As part of the Downers Grove Police Department’s Memorial Day holiday emphasis from May 11th through May 28th, Officers worked saturation patrols that targeted impaired drivers, conducted daytime and nighttime seat belt enforcement zones, and a roadside safety check. In addition, officers emphasized the same offenses during their routine patrol assignments.

During the seventeen days of this initiative a total of 124 seatbelt/child safety seat tickets and 149 speeding citations were issued by Downers Grove Police Officers. In addition, 14 impaired driving arrests were made during the Memorial Day campaign.
