DGPD to Conduct Roadside Safety Check on May 26

Safety check targeting impaired drivers to occur May 26 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The Downers Grove Police Department is participating in a yearlong initiative that focuses on impaired driving and seat belt enforcement on specific holidays, including Memorial Day. This initiative is in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and is funded with an IDOT traffic grant totaling $33,000.00.

As part of the police department’s Memorial Day holiday emphasis, Downers Grove Police Officers will join forces with the Illinois State Police Officers to conduct a roadside safety check. The roadside safety check will be on May 26th from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am, and will target impaired drivers.

Impaired drivers present a significant problem for the safety of other motorists, as well as a challenge for law enforcement. Roadside safety checks, when coupled with aggressive public awareness campaigns, are an effective tool to reduce the incidents of impaired driving.
