Disorderly Conduct at Caribou, Theft from Kingsley PTA, DUI Arrests: Police Blotter

TUESDAY, OCT. 9

Criminal Damage to Property

An unknown offender used a key to scratch a Mercedes-Benz in the 1900 block of Loomes Avenue sometime between 9 p.m. on Oct. 8 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 9, police said.

Theft from Kingsley PTA

The president of the PTA at Kingsley School told police more than $1,300 was stolen between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2.

According to the report, $99 in cash and multiple checks totaling $1,279 were stolen from the multi-purpose room in the school. The money was collected from parents for an order of school spirit wear, police said.

Car Burglary on Burlington Avenue

A car was burglarized in the 900 block of Burlington Avenue sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 7 p.m., police said.

A laptop valued at $200 was stolen from the vehicle, according to the report.

DUI

Frank Gomez, 37, of the 3800 block of West Street in Chicago, was arrested around 1:20 a.m. at 55th Street and Fairview Avenue, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turn and improper lane usage. He was issued a Nov. 7 court date.

SUNDAY, OCT. 7

Disorderly Conduct at Caribou Coffee

A manager at Caribou Coffee, 5100 Main St., told police a man, who was not identified in the report, was acting "strangely" in the store around 8 a.m., swearing at customers and walking behind the service counter.

After the manager handed the man a cup of free milk, the man kicked some chairs and left the business, police said.

Officers found the man in a vehicle outside the Tivoli Theater. Police said he admitted to being upset in Caribou.

The man was advised that he was no longer welcome in Caribou, and that he would be arrested for trespass if he returns, police said.

Criminal Trespassing at Caribou

Joseph S. Kirkwood, 50, of the 700 block of Liberty Street in Wheaton, was arrested around 4:25 p.m. after an incident at Caribou Coffee, 5100 Main St., police said.

Caribou employees contacted Downers Grove police about Kirkwood, who they said was trespassed from the business and had returned. The employees said he was in the coffee shop earlier in the day, and was very disruptive, according to the report.

Police located Kirkwood in his vehicle in a parking lot across the street. He was uncooperative, locking his vehicle door and rolling up his window, authorities said.

After a brief conversation, police placed Kirkwood under arrested and transported him to the Downers Grove Police Department. He was charged with criminal trespass to real property, and was released on an I-Bond.

SATURDAY, OCT. 6

DUI

David Sandoval, 29, of the 600 block of Nolan Avenue in Glendale Heights, was arrested around 3:24 a.m. at Interstate 355 and Butterfield Road, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and possession of a controlled substance. He was issued a Nov. 14 court date.

FRIDAY, OCT. 5

Car Burglary on 52nd Street

A car was burglarized overnight in the 1500 block of 52nd Street, police said. A wallet, credit cards and a student ID card were reported stolen.

THURSDAY, OCT. 4

Stolen Obama Sign

A sign supporting President Barack Obama was stolen from the front of a home in the 900 block of Claremont, police said.

Possession of Drug Equipment

Michael J. Alberts, 36, of the 9700 block of Utica Avenue in Evergreen Park, was arrested around 3:32 p.m. near Butterfield Road and Lloyd Avenue, police said.

Police said they saw Alberts make two lane changes without signaling while traveling westbound on Butterfield Road. A registration check showed he had a suspended driver's license, police said.

After Alberts was pulled over, police said they found a plastic bag with cannabis residue in the center console. They also found another plastic bag and three smoking pipes with residue in a computer case, police said.

Alberts was charged with possession of drug equipment, unlawful possession of cannabis, driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was issued a Nov. 11 court date.
