Downers Grove Home Uninhabitable After Early Morning Fire

The 2 a.m. blazed caused extensive damage to a home in the 20W400 block of Rooke Court in unincorporated Downers Grove, officials said.

No one was injured in an early morning fire that caused extensive damage to a home in unincorporated Downers Grove on Thursday.

Officials with the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District said they were dispatched at 2:17 a.m. to a home in the 20W400 block of Rooke Court, where a large fire had started in the garage and spread to the adjoining family room and attic area.

The three occupants of the home and their pets escaped without injury before emergency crews arrived, officials said.

Once firefighters were on the scene, it took about 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze. They remained on scene for several hours to overhaul the hose and make sure no hidden fires remained.

"This was slightly complicated by the fact that there were two cars still inside the garage," the release stated.

Officials determined the fire started in the garage, but said the cause is undetermined and still under investigation.

Damage to the home was so extensive that it will likely be uninhabitable for several months, officials said. A cost estimate was not immediately available.

Assisting the Darien-Woodridge district on the call were units from Lisle-Woodridge, Downers Grove and Pleasantview. The investigation is being conducted with help from the MABAS Division 10 Fire Investigators and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force.
