Downers Grove Man Dies After Jumping into Chicago River with Bricks

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead Saturday morning after jumping off a bridge on the Near North Side, according to media reports.

A 19-year-old Downers Grove man died Saturday after he apparently jumped into the Chicago River with bricks tied around his waist, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Chicago police were called around 4:45 a.m. by someone who saw the man on the bridge in the 1100 block of West North Avenue. The person who saw the man said the man was threatening to jump and that he appeared to have bricks tied to his waist, according to the Tribune.

The man jumped into the river before police could arrive. He was pulled from the river around 5 a.m. and was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 6:25 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The incident is being investigated as a suicide, police said.
